Greenfish Subtitle Player: A Simple and Effective Way to Sync Subtitles with Videos

Greenfish Subtitle Player plays .SRT files in a partially transparent window which can be laid over a video player. For instance, it enables you to watch online streaming videos with subtitles. Rewind and Fast Forward buttons allow you to easily synchronize subtitles with video. Greenfish Subtitle Player is cross-platform (works fine on Windows, Linux and Mac), but you will need to have Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 or Mono installed.

Greenfish Subtitle Player is quite good software. It is one of the lightweight software as well. You can use it with online streaming websites and with video players too. Even if you are listening to an audio song, you can use it to play subtitles of that song separately. However, what I except with this subtitle player is that it should let users adjust the transparency by providing an option or slider. It could be even good if its window can be made completely invisible to make only subtitles visible.

Install Penguin Subtitle Player on Ubuntu 16.10 and Ubuntu 16.04 Systems. Penguin is a wonderful subtitle player for online streaming movies and local files. Penguin Subtitle Player is an open-source, cross-platform standalone subtitle player, as an alternative to Greenfish Subtitle Player, SrtViewer (Mac), SRTPlayer, JustSubsPlayer and Free Subtitle Player. You download the subtitle file (.srt, .ssa, .ass) from any sites you like and load it into the subtitle player.

The subtitle player provides a translucent window which always stays on the top so that subtitles can be shown on top of the video without blocking anything. With Penguin Subtitle Player, just open your favorite online streaming site, load the subtitle file into the player, and enjoy.

Open Subtitles MKV Player is a free multimedia program for PC coming from the popular online source of movie subtitles, Open Subtitles. It's a video player that features wide format support and can be used to playback all types of files, whether film or TV show, without issue.

Open Subtitles has been the premier source of film and TV show subtitles for years now. It covers all genres and even offers multiple versions in different languages when available. It comes as a surprise that the website has even put out its own video player. The program is called Open Subtitles MKV Player, and it has some interesting features of note.

As a video player, this one works just like any other, with a simple UI, and contrary to its name, is not limited to just MKV files, but covers pretty much all popular formats used today, audio codecs included. Its real standout feature is it fully integrates with the website to automatically download matching subtitles for the movie or show you're watching.

Another notable feature is the ability to preview videos from torrent files. Simply add it to the player, and you can stream them right away without having to download everything. Sadly, the whole experience leaves a lot to be desired, with all kinds of graphical glitches popping up all the time. Also, some downloaded subs don't always match the videos playing.

As a video player, Open Subtitles MKV Player is decent enough with an easy-to-use UI and the usual list of options. Now, while the ability to automatically download subs is nice, it does miss sometimes. Add to that the various visual problems and this program becomes less enticing. Until these issues are fixed, there are other better and more reliable solutions available elsewhere.

Simply open any SRT file in the player and then drag and position the player window over the playing video just under the video screen, typically where a subtitle appears. Of course, you can place the subtitle just about anywhere on the screen.

The downside of using a separate subtitle player is that there is no auto-synchronization between the video and the subtitle. You have to manually adjust the play time of the subtitle, the video or both to get the subtitle in sync with the video.

Note: You may not be able to use Full Screen with Windows Media Player (WMP). Maximize the WMP view to allow for the subtitle player above or below. Note: The subtitles do NOT include "Previously on Hand aufs Herz" nor do they include the Introduction. Wait for those to finish playing. 5) "Wrestling the alligator/crocodile" ... synchronizing the Greenfish Subtitle Player with the episode dialog is a bit of a challenge, but practice makes perfect. The time-codes are 'soft' (nearest 1/2 second) to accommodate synchronization issues. Note: Use play/pause on either or both the media player of choice and/or the Greenfish Subtitle Player until either: the two time-codes match (see image) or the dialog matches.
